Seven of every 10 Americans who die each year, die of a chronic disease. More than 75% of the nation’s $2 trillion medical-care costs are a result of chronic diseases. Much of our disease burden is preventable. According the the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers are preventable through healthful eating habits and a physically active lifestyle.
